Do you sometimes want dinner (or dessert) to be easy, child friendly and cheap too!? I can recommend preparing rice porridge in oven next time.
In Denmark we normally serve rice porridge during December leading up to Christmas. We are calling it Santa’s favorite food! However in our family, we’re enjoying it all year round – and sometimes even once a week! Though, that is mostly during winter time.
Our kids (and we too!) love it and rice porridge cooked in oven is just a simple and easy way to cook dinner. And I promise it will be filling you up as an easy meal after a stressful day.
Especially one thing we like is, if there’s enough leftovers so we can turn it into delicious klatkager!! If you translate klatkager you will get something like Lump Cakes. A kind of heavy pancake we traditionally serve with jam and sprinkle with sugar. But that’s another one of our classic danish favorites you (also) will have to try!
Rice Porrridge Cooked in Oven
When you make rice porridge you will have to begin with pouring the milk, rice and salt into a pot with a lid. Both parts needs to tolerate getting into the oven.
Hereafter you heat up the oven to 275 degrees Farenheit.
Next you will need to place the pot in the oven and take it out for a stir every 20 minutes. Be careful you don’t burn your fingers!
Finally after about 3-3.5 hours the porridge is ready to be served.
Rice porridge is served sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and a knob of butter that will melt slowly.
To sum it up, making porridge in the oven will serve you a lot of time.
This way you will not have to stay in the kitchen and and stir in the pot all the time. You also will not end up with burned milk or porridge (or a pot that is impossible to clean)
Simply said, rice porridge cooked in oven is a fantastic win-win situation when dinner needs to be easy and cheap!
Enjoy!
