I’m so happy to see you here!
My name is Rikke and I am a Danish mother living in California with my Danish husband, who also is the father of our three children :o)
I am a creative and visual soul and love the process of creating!
One thing I really appreciate is the process of making homemade happiness – and love, love, love traditions!!
As a Dane living abroad there’s suddenly many (actual several!) things I emphasize and miss. In many areas, I am even inclined to say that after I moved to the US I have become more Danish than before I lived in Denmark! haha…
Suddenly, I do not have my family by my side to consult on how to do with this and that. There are cultural differences that makes even small craving very complicated – and traditions becomes even more important than before.
Denmark has been ranked as the most happy people on the world several years in row – and I am often being asked WHAT makes us so happy?!
I think it’s because we basically know how to “hygge”!! (feel cozy) as in how to mentally relax and enjoy the moment – at home, alone or with friends – and with lots of homemade food, snacks and creativities.
With this blog I want to emphasize those elements which together constitute genuine Danish hygge/cosiness and I will also do my best to pass on inspirational creativities, DIY’s, traditions and recipes that any home should know – and as your grandparents wish you knew ;O)
All posts – recipes or DIY are made/approved by me and my family – I would never post anything I haven’t tried out – a lot of times – myself!
I am a great snack’er both before and after the real main meal so that’s maybe why you will see a lot of cakes, snacks and sides – and because I have three kids, you will find a lot of fun stuff to do with them little kiddos too!!
If you have any questions please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
I will also happily answer any questions to recipes and posts in the comment box below each post.
Enjoy – and be inspired!
