In our family we love vanilla!
But instead of throwing out the costly, empty vanilla pods I store them in a glass with sugar.
In this way the pods gives its aroma to the sugar and the sugar also serves as preservation of the pods, so I can always just fish up a pod and cook it in various dishes.
We use the homemade vanilla sugar for everything from sprinkle on yoghurt, in smoothies, ice, cakes or desserts.
Empty vanilla pods
Just stick your empty, used vanilla pods in a jar with sugar and close with a lid.
After a week you have the best tasting vanilla sugar.
When sugar is used, just refill with more sugar!
Whenever you need some extra taste to your cooking, e.g. jam or rice porridge, just fish up a pod and cook it with your dish.
